Westward Ho! is taking part in the Great British Beach Clean and we are inviting families, small groups and ‘social bubbles’ to join in the fun. Each group will be asked to clean and survey a 100-metre section of Westward Ho! beach.
The annual Great British Beach Clean has been leading the way in tackling ocean pollution for 26 years, helping to make some of the most significant impacts on beach litter including bans on micro plastics and the plastic bag charge.
Last year over 10,000 volunteers litter-picked and surveyed 437 beaches across the United Kingdom and on average 558 items of litter was picked up for every 100 metres of beach. They removed 10,833 kg of litter in one weekend alone!
The data collected is shared with the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC), contributing to a worldwide report on litter levels. The Marine Conservation Society also analyses the data and uses the results to raise awareness of pollution and tackle it at source in the UK.
Clean litter grabbers and gloves will be provided with strict social distancing measures in place for your safety. If you would like to lead a group or help with organisation please visit’ www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/31057665411.
