As part of the 2008 North Devon Festival, the AONB Local Life Photographic Competition is now underway. Photographers of all ages are invited to grab a camera and capture the essence of local life within the North Devon AONB and the North Devon Festival. In selecting the finalists the judges will be looking for photos that demonstrate originality, humour or technical expertise.

All photos must be digital and a good resolution (minimum 1600x1200) and they must be taken between 1st May 2008 and 30th June 2008 - although there is an exception for the Village Life category where we will welcome photos up to 2 years old.
Please read the rules of the competition carefully. If you agree to the entry conditions, please complete the Application Form and post it, together with your digital photo/s on a CD or DVD, to: Local Life Photographic Competition, North Devon AONB, Bideford Station, Railway Terrace, East-the-Water, Bideford, EX39 4BB. Please ensure the disc is clearly marked as per the rules below.
Rules of the Competition
Village Life – the centre of the community, every-day life, special occasions, festivals, fairs, shows and local personalities.

People at Work – from those involved in traditional skills and crafts to present vocations or trades, still life or action packed, teams, groups and individuals.

Hidden Treasures – How has man influenced North Devon’s coastal villages and landscape, and what is distinctive about them? Tell us why it is special to you. Is it the special buildings, the chimneys, cob walls, thatch, the boundaries, monuments, relics and archaeological sites? In this special category we would also like a description of why the photo makes you feel at home in North Devon.

North Devon Festival – capture the essence of the Festival, the notion of celebration, togetherness, cultural vitality, rural sophistication, culture in the countryside. What does the festival mean to you?
  1. The organisers of the competition are the North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the North Devon Festival and Northern Devon Coast & Countryside Service.
  2. Entries must be provided on disc as high resolution JPEG, TIFF or EPS files only.
  3. Each entrant must be the sole author and owner of the copyright for all photographs entered and must have the original electronic file in their possession.
  4. Entries may be in colour or black and white
  5. All discs must be clearly labelled with the photographer’s name, address and contact details and indicate where, within the North Devon AONB that photograph was taken.
  6. No more than 2 photos per photographer can be entered per category
  7. All photos must be taken between 1st May 2008 and 30th June 2008 - although there is an exception for the Village Life category where photos up to 2 years old will be welcomed.
  8. Please indicate photographs that have been digitally manipulated.
  9. All reasonable care will be taken of the digital entries, but the North Devon AONB cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss.
  10. The closing date for entries is Sunday 6th July 2008. No late entries will be accepted.
  11. All entries must be mailed on a disc with a completed application form to: Local Life Photographic Competition, North Devon AONB, Bideford Station, Railway Terrace, East-the-Water, Bideford, EX39 4BB.
  12. No entries may be removed from any North Devon AONB exhibition or display before the competition ends.
  13. Categories should be interpreted as follows: Village Life – the centre of the community, every-day life, special occasions, festivals, fairs, shows and local personalities; People at Work – from those involved in traditional skills and crafts to present vocations or trades, still life or action packed, teams, groups and individuals; Hidden Treasures – How has man influenced North Devon’s coastal villages and landscape, and what is distinctive about them?   14. Although entrants retain ownership and copyright of their entries, the North Devon AONB, North Devon Festival and Northern Devon Coast & Countryside Service reserve the royalty fee right and licence to re-produce entries in any publicity material related to either service.
  15. A panel of judges appointed by the organisers will choose the short-list of entries.
  16. All short-listed entries will be posted on the North Devon AONB website www.northdevon-aonb.org.uk and the public will be invited to vote for their favourite on-line up until the end of September 2008.
  17. All short-listed entries will be displayed at the North Devon Show on 6th August 2008 where the public will be invited to nominate their favourite.
  18. The winning photos will appear in exhibitions organised by the North Devon Festival.
  19. The organisers’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
